Every border town has its own character; offering Historic Houses/Castles, Parks, Museums, fine golf courses, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Throughout certain months of the year there are also ranger led walks, festivals, pipe band performances Common Ridings and each town hosts their own Christmas celebrations.

Abbotsford House is just one of many Grand and Historic houses in our area.  Floors Castle & Gardens, Mellerstain House, Traquair House having its own Brewery, maze and Museum, Manderston House which boasts having the only silver staircase in the world and many many more houses in the area to visit. Another great attraction in the Borders are the beautiful gardens you can visit.  Why not join one of the organized gardening events - visits to walled gardens, red squirrel conservation, amazing azaleas and blue poppies or Estate expeditions.

EDINBURGH - The capital city famous for its fringe festival, Theatres, culture, Castle and many tourist attractions is a must for all visitors to the Borders being only 1 hour by car from Synton Mains. When you arrive why not take an open top bus, to tour the city (Great value).

 
   
CYCLING - The Scottish Borders has a reputation as a centre of excellence for mountain biking with an amazing array of roads, lanes and tracks to cycle along for all abilities. Glentress (30 minutes from our cottage) is one of the leading biking destinations for mountain biking in the Country. World class mountain biking on your doorstep!

WALKING - The heather covered hills, forests and woodlands make it also a beautiful place to explore. If you want company or a guide there are many organized walks always arranged.

FISHING - The Scottish Borders has one of the most famous salmon rivers   running through- River Tweed. Information can be sought from www.fishtweed.co.uk  There are also other rivers and numerous lochs to fish.

Other pastimes close by are archery, sporting clays, osprey watching or quad biking.  Take the children to the many swimming pools in the area.
